Fundraising as an every-day skill Workshop in EMSA Warsaw
On 13th of January (Friday:) EMSA Warsaw organised a workshop for students dedicated to Fundraising (FR) techniques and skills, focusing more on a practical approach. A 3 hour session, based on the trainer’s design, covered topics such as successful negotiation, respectful approach to a company person and an official request-writing exercises. All in all we’ve had some fun, we watched some educational movies on FR characteristics and learned a bunch of stuff on how to present one’s idea/project in an interactive way (thank you, Steve Jobs) During the session participants were able to express their thoughts in a friendly,
open environment, share their experiences and advice each other on issues freely associated
with raising sponsors and dealing with people who are in charge of big institutions as well as
smaller companies.
We learned that it is much easier to ask for "things" rather than "money" and that very often
small business owners are much more eager to support student's issues. During the meeting
we underlined the importance of proper preparation with a phrase: fail to plan = plan to fail.
Among more practical pieces of information we stated that the skill of active listener is a
valuable tool in case of any type of contact - both very official as well as peer-to-peer one. A
good conversation partner must be an active listener!
Friendly atmosphere was provided not only by the small snacks and drinks brought by
EMSA but also it was due to active participation and involvement of the people who took part
in the session. Thank you, Guys!
